About US

The Company

Brazos Dance Collective (BDC) began in 2003 under the name The Armstrong/Bergeron Dance Company named after the founding artistic directors, Carisa Armstrong and Christine Bergeron.  Due to the growth of the company , the company became a dance collective in 2010.

BDC  is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) modern dance company dedicated to the creation and development of modern dance through performance, audience participation, education, master classes, and outreach programs.  Artistic Directors have been choreographing professionally since 1998 and have been collaborating together since moving to Bryan, TX in 2003.  Their work has been critically and popularly acclaimed in Texas, Ohio, New York, North Carolina, Mexico and Scotland.  They are interested in how dance intersects with the human experience. Their work investigates how our experiences and the power of movement can bring our community together.

Our Mission

Our mission is to present and promote contemporary dance within the community. Through performances, lecture demonstrations, Q & A’s, master classes, and workshops BDC seeks to connect  community members with contemporary dance, inviting them to gain a greater understanding of the intersection of dance and the human experience.

Our Current Work

A Journey to Hope explores the  journey over the rough seas, a trip that many refugees take in hopes of finding a better life for themselves and their families. This evening length work incorporates stories of immigrants in the United States through photography, individual stories, audience interaction, a large set design, and original composition by composer Richard Hall.

But where there's hope, there's life is an evening length about the Holocaust. It begins with Hitler's speech and moves through nine sections to conclude at Liberation. This work included a team of historians, community partners, film makers, thespians, visual effects professionals, and a composer. This work has been presented across the United States in various festivals, in collaboration with high schools, and expanded to outreach programs to educate the youth about the history of the Holocaust. Boxed In: U-haul Edition is a series of dances performed in u-hauls. This dance work  is designed to be performed anywhere a u-haul can be parked. Each u-haul experience is different and can occur as an evening of dancers where audiences are guided from one u-haul to another or be designed to be more like a dance happening, where audience members randomly come across dance performances in no particular order.
